Buntings take a rest.
Here and there large flocks of winter buntings (Plectrophenax nivalis) already come together to fly northwards to their nesting grounds for the summer. They are our winter-time guests until April, because until then it is easier to find food – seeds – here. The male birds enliven our landscapes beautifully with their contrasting black and white plumage colours, the female birds are somewhat more discreet, shining in white and brown shades.
Such a pity that we cannot heat the song of the buntings, it is said to be beautiful. Another name for the bunting is snow lark. This songbird however only sings in its nesting areas.
