There is still time to go looking for the lady’s slipper (Cypripedium calceolus) this weekend, it still flowers. The orchid with its peculiar lip shape – reminding rather of Tom Thumb’s wooden clog than Cinderella’s golden shoe - grows in all Estonian counties, but you must know where to look for it. The plant prefers our cultural heritage landscapes – wooded meadows and juniper-covered alvars.
More information: Jaanus Järva writes about the largest-flowered of European orchids in the June issue of the journal Loodusesõber.
