Limo beach, Ruhnu.
On beautiful beach days it can be interesting to bring along a small butterfly net and, wading along in the warm water, see what gets caught in the net. Certainly a number of sticklebacks but Baltic sprats (Sprattus sprattus balticus) may be there too after some stalking. The spawning period of sprats is just ending but from time to time some fish still get up from the depths into shallower waters. And when you have caught sprats, they can be kept in a small pail for a short time – to be admired at close quarters. Because another silver coat as fine as the sprat’s is hard to find in nature. The little fish gleam nearly blindingly in sunlit water.
