The flower telling of summer’s end – heather (Calluna vulgaris) – can already be seen in some woods and heaths now, but it is still only mustering its forces, to paint all the ground under the pines in purple and lilac. Because heather is a good bee plant with plenty of nectar, it attracts many insects, and of course bees in great numbers. And from that comes a precious sweet thing, yum-yum ....
