Acorn barnacle shells on chair.
The white shells on seaweed that the waves have thrown on the shore, or growing on stones, or even, as in the photo, on a plastic chair, are signs of acorn barnacles (Balanidae). The acorn barnacles are intricate invertebrates in every way. When you find a piece of dried dark seaweed encrusted with acorn barnacles on the shore it is tempting to turn it into a piece of jewellery!
