Netting birds. Jaak Tammekänd.
This autumn Estonia’s best known bird station – Kabli bird station – has been working for 40 years since its start, and during this time more than 156 000 goldcrests for instance have been ringed. Even at this moment ringing is industriously carried out: the autumn migration is in full force and the Kabli bird trap is built in the autumn migration direction. About the results of all this – what common traits have been discovered in the migrations of birds, why old-fashioned ringing is ever more valued, and what is meant by partial migration – ornithologist Agu Leivits writes in the October issue of the journal Loodusesõber.
