This very interesting “predator” is everywhere, clambering around on its search for food, but from the woodpile especially you can bring it along indoors as a not quite wished-for companion. In the woodpile the harvestmen (order: Opiliones) have good hunting grounds, indoors they risk hunger after a while if they can’t get out . Sometimes a harvestman comes to inspect your cup of water, putting one super long segmented leg to the edge of the water and then curling the leg up almost in a coil between its feeler palps – does it drink the water or does it use the liquid for something else? Interesting to watch and consider!
Only the eggs and young of harvestmen survive the winter.
