Honeymoon days

 

After seven long days of serious nest building the fun and games went on again at full speed. At last the pied flycatcher male was allowed some closer contact by his mate. Maybe the human saying – work first, play later – is true in the world of flycatchers too?

The next morning the male bird delivered a large caterpillar to the nest box. It was like a promise to his lady who was just enjoying a few days of rest: See, I am ready to take on the obligations of nest life!
