A spring good for development. The plants are sturdy, even lush. A sea of flowers where they grow, there have been no droughts and the slight night frost of last weekend didn’t cause much damage inland. The flowers are dioecious and the berries will ripen around Midsummer in sunny places. And they really are the taste of summer.
Green or creamy strawberries (Fragaria viridis) flower too; where the habitats – on hillocks on chalky soil – are close to the common wild strawberries the two can be compared. The green strawberry plant is taller, the leaves larger, more glossy and with blunter tips. The flowers are similar to confusion, but the fruits don’t ripen until July-August. We will talk more about these aromatic berries when the fruits have ripened.
