Why don’t we see Anna and Uku this year?

There has been little movement in the white-tailed eagle nest that last year gathered a record number of clicks. Although sounds of eagles and others are heard from there. During the breeding period of 2016 the nest life of white-tailed eagles Anna and Uku was watched more than 10 million times. The main characters of this real life broadcast try to keep a more modest image this year. They have not even passed by in camera view. Whether they have flown past at a greater distance some time we don’t know.

In December and January we were there to check the conditions, changed the sensor that had been exposed to humidity last summer for a new one  and put the nest material that had fallen down in place again. We had to fix a couple of sturdy poles for the nest platform because last summer one of the branches under the nest was broken off. Renovation of the nest was not in the plans before we got there, but once we had climbed up we felt that we would like to be little helpful. Even just because so many interested pairs of eyes had been able to take part of the nest life...

It is likely that the white-tailed eagle pair Anna and Uku have built themselves a new nest. In winter we didn’t find it in the nearest neighbourhood but maybe they built the nest in spring? The empty nest platform has  until now been visited by two white-tailed eagles, the latest was a juvenile from last year seen in the evening light, however not grown up in this nest.

We will leave the camera running on the nest this year, nostalgics can then hear and watch  the surroundings. Some ringed white-tailed eagle  may also land there. For a background audio the camera suits nicely anyway.

The ravens nesting nearby come now and again to collect materials for their own nest but they don’t care for larger branches.

The Latvian white-tailed eagle nest was promising. We had hoped to guide the fans of Anna and Uku there but it seems as if there will not be a nesting after all.

But in the  Norwegian white-tailed eagle nest there are already eggs, watch them! And if you still get overwhelmed by longing, you can watch the summary of last year by Tuomo Kallioniemi, I part and II part.

Who is in a hurry can watch the 15 minute version.
