The first egg was laid in the nest on May 2nd, in the afternoon. For ospreys there is nothing remarkable in keeping a few days pause between the egg-layings. The second egg was laid on May 5th.

In a full clutch there are usually 2 – 3 eggs, rarely 1 or 4. The eggs, roughly the size of a large hen’s egg and cream-coloured, are patterned with brown spots and flecks. The long incubation lasts about 40 days, thus we might expect the hatching of the first osprey chick around June 10th. The female starts incubating when the first egg has been laid, and so the following chicks hatch with intervals of some days.

We will introduce the ospreys in more detail soon.
