The peak period of the waders’ migration is approaching.

We have installed the camera in western Estonia, on the Noarootsi coast to observe the migration of waders; the site is considered to be the best in Läänemaa for studying and observing the waders’ migration.

The activities of the waders have not been favoured by the very low seawater level that has lasted a week and brings the birds so far out that identification of species becomes difficult.

The waders on migration feed at the waterline and in shallow water; when the sea again reaches the Amsterdam zero or slightly over we will see the waders in action close to the camera.

Despite the low water level there are enough birds bustling about close to the camera too: starlings looking for food in the banks of seaweeds brought in by the water are steadily busy less than a metre from the camera eye, the wagtail stops from time to time even on the camera. Between the beach and the nearby puddles some thirty grey herons mill about, and hooded crows are in place too. Herring gulls and mew gulls are there almost all the time.

The seawater level is already rising. We will see whom we observe and hear close by and farther away.

The plan is to observe the waders in the web camera for about three more weeks and after that to find a good site for observing the migration of geese and cranes.
