Yesterday night the female laid the first egg in the nest
Lesser spotted eagle Väike-konnakotkas Aquila pomarina
The weather is cold or changeable as in spring, but the egg wanted to be laid despite that.
In previous years we have been able to watch the nest life of lesser spotted eagles in the webcam beginning from 2008.
In the Estonian forests about 600 breeding pairs are nesting this year; the breeding success depends on the number of prey animals (rodents) in the years. Lesser spotted eagles usually lay two eggs in the nest but of the hatched chicks only one, the stronger chick, fledges.
The adults usually start breeding at four years of age. A long nesting period is ahead, so there is plenty of time to introduce the habits of these birds.
