On the Soil Day at  the Estonian University of Life Sciences (Eesti Maaülikool) in Decemberr 2019 eroded soil was proclaimed Soil of the Year 2020

Eesti Maaülikoolis toimunud mullapäeval kuulutati 2020. aasta mullaks erodeeritud muld

In Estonia eroded soils make up only 1,2%  of the total soil resources; their share is largest on agricultural lands or about 3,1%

Larger quantities of eroded soils are to be found in the South Estonian uplands, the South-Eastern  plateau and to a smaller extent the Sakala uplands environment and the Pandivere highland.

Based on the degree of erosion and the carbonate content of the original parent rock the soil of the year is classified in three groups: slightly, moderately and strongly eroded soils. Strongly  and moderately eroded soils are located on the higher parts of the landscape profile and because of this are also more drought sensitive .
