White-tailed eagle         Merikotkas           Haliaeëtus albicilla

On Friday morning I was in an Internet-free community and so I can only comment the event in retrospect – sorry .

The young white-tailed eagle Sulvi left the dilapidated nest a little before getting two and a half months old – more precisely on the 74th day. Often this happens also in undamaged nests with several chicks some time around the 11th week. In addition the young bird had trained climbing already from the ringing onwards. It managed eating on its own almost perfectly. Sometimes something edible fell from the claws or the beak but the adults have had no problems with feeding one chick.

The eaglet is tempted out of the nest by the adults sitting somewhere nearby with the prey and luring the chick out with tempting calls. From now on the eaglet moves silently together with the adults and by and by learns ”eagle wisdom”. The eaglet remains cared for by the parents for a long time still and at times we will surely hear and see them via the camera.

Good luck and wind in your wings!
