Body
Grey seal   Hallhüljes       Halichoerus grypus

The old seal bulls with their dark fur and the necks decked with skin folds that are covered with fighting scars split up the territories between themselves, in order to be near the females when the suckling ends, since their heat period starts then. The suckling period lasts only three weeks for the seal pups, then, weighing about fifty kilos and provided with a nutrient reserve, they go to manage life on their own – even catching fish will be learnt guided by instinct.

Bites by such males are no trifling matters;  the length of the individuals in the video is more than two and a half meters, the weight a quarter of a tonne. The teeth are sharp, the bites quick and very forceful.
